Venedig nennt man auch die Löwenrepublik, der geflügelte Löwe findet sich auch im Wappen der Stadt. Diese hier bewachen den Eingang des Arsenale.

Venice is also called the Lions Republic, the winged lion you can also see in the flag of the city. These lions are the guardians of the Arsenale.
